In the interest of drivers around the world, both Chevrolet and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) launched an investigation into finding a fix for the issue.
now, we're proud to say that the investigation has, in fact, turned up a solution that the American automaker has already began to implement. Owners of the Volt can expect to hear from Chevrolet in the near future about bringing their Volt in to receive the fix. Meanwhile, the American automaker has worked this fix into its production process, ensuring that each Volt that rolls off the assembly line in the future.
What exactly does this fix involve Specifically, Chevrolet will be reinforcing the structure of the Volt to further protect the battery pack in the event of a collision. They'll add a sense in the reservoir of the battery to monitor the coolant system too, which will sound an alert in the event of a leak. And finally, they plant to equip the Volt battery pack with a tamper-resistant bracket to prevent coolant from overfilling.
