You don't need to be a product of the 1980s to know who the Blues Brothers are. They're not only an iconic American blues band. They were the inspiration for the classic Blues Brothers movie, starring John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Cab Calloway and John Candy. To pay homage to the well-known film and their 100-years of American roots, Chevrolet has created one very unique special-edition Cruze.
What does the special Chevrolet Cruze look like? Painted in matte black and without hubcaps, it has a white roof and front doors. Perhaps the most distinguishing feature, however, is the loud-speaker strapped to the roof with a board and rope.
Doesn't sound like something you'd come in to Lindsay Chevrolet to buy, does it? That's exactly why, Chevy created only one. They stayed true to the Blues Brothers rough-and-tumble form. The point was to create a true and fun representation, not to be fashionable.
Chevrolet recently premiered the one-off, special-edition Cruze in London, at the legendary Ace Cafe. Over 500 guests gathered around, in total. To top off the show, which was part of the Ace Cafe's American "cruise-in" night, Chevy hired a Blues Brothers tribute band based out of St. Netos, Cambridgeshire.
Speaking on the decision to create a car co-commemorating the Blues Brothers and their 100-year anniversary, Mark Terry, Managing Director, Chevrolet UK said, "As we celebrate 100 years of Chevrolet, it's right that we should mark this by celebrating other elements of American culture - we're the only US brand to truly establish a foothold across segments of the UK and European car market, and much of that is down to the proud heritage and cultural association people make with our brand. The Blues Brothers is an all-time American classic much like Chevrolet itself."1
