"The first 2012 Camaro ZL1 put up for sale brought $250,000 at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Las Vegas on Sept. 24," according to Auto Week. This model will be the only vehicle in the line up made with a carbon flash metallic exterior shell. This variant is the 69th Camaro ZL1 to come from the Oshawa Assembly Plant, which has built 69 different production copies of the classic 1969 Camaro.¹

Chevrolet's original model was produced with an aluminum big-block engine used for Corvette race cars during the late 1960's. It was an exceptional achievement due to the fact that ZL1's aluminum block reduced the weight by over 100 pounds.

The 1969 ZL1 was rated between 430 and 500 horsepower.

2012's version of the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 comes with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine, delivering 580 horsepower and an amazing 556 lb-ft of torque. The auction was set up to raise funds for the Southern Nevada YMCA, and the car was purchased by Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick, who can expect delivery of his all black supercharged ZL1 in early 2012.
